Pokemon Go Appraisals Explained

by Sidney Parfait ~ August 25th, 2016.

Since the launch of Pokémon Go, players have either been using third party tools to estimate IV (individual value stats), or have been in the dark (because these are hidden stats) about the quality of their Pokemon. Niantic has banned quite a few players for using some IV checkers, but I believe that the accounts that were affected were using Pokemon IV checkers that did more than just check IV. The new Pokemon update that was released on August 23rd adds a new feature called Pokemon Go Appraisals.

The new Pokemon Go Appraisals is a welcome feature to many, but still lacks the ability for a Pokemon Trainer to know the exact potential of a Pokémon. This new feature does help for those interested in the more strategic side of the game. Knowing your Pokemon’s IV is very important when deciding which pokemon to evolve and spend your candy on. This could be the difference between having a 2000 CP Vaporeon and a 2750 CP Vaporeon if you evolve the right Evee.

Pokemon Go Appraisals will now allow you to ask your team leader (Blanche, Candela, or Spark) to give you a hint at the potential strengths and weaknesses of each Pokemon in your Pokedex.

If you like to battle in Pokemon gyms, and want to be successful, these Appraisals will help you in determining which pokemon deserve further analysis with an IV checker, and which ones to just send to the professor for candy.

Niantic has stated that they are set to roll out even more features in the coming months. The Pokemon Go Appraisals are a move in the right direction. Let’s hope that these future updates and new features are as well. I can’t wait until Pokemon trading is introduced into the game, which will make solid IV that much more important.

You still need to check the IV on any Pokemon that seems good. This is a step in the right direction, but not everything that pokemon go players need.
